In February 2017, just by chance, I came across an eleven year old child who has been going to grade 5 in government primary school. The mother complained that child does not want to go school and always runs away from the school. I called the child and wrote his name down on a piece of paper and asked him to read. He started at the paper with blank looks. I soon realized  that he cannot read at all and cannot count beyond 10. Next day, I visited his school to meet the school principal, and to my dismay, he is not an exception, and a large proportion of children in grade 4 and 5 could read or write at all. This led to beginning of GreenWorld Education and Research.

The key motivation: more than 200 million children in India are in schools but are not learning.  There are close to 1 million children in Delhi government primary schools alone, and 30 to 50% of whom may not be learning at all due to problems at multiple levels. This calls for urgent action and whole society mobilization. We cannot wait even for a day or a month or a year. The cost of inaction is too high: closing doors for a whole generation to lead a meaning life and creation of unequal society with all its inherent problems.
